Mark your calendar for January 16. The 2018 Iowa Legislative Session begins next week, and Senator David Johnson (I-Ocheydan) will introduce 15 factory farm bills designed to close up many regulatory loopholes.
One of those bills calls for a factory farm moratorium until there are less than 100 water impairments AND the Master Matrix is overhauled!
IARA will hold a Press Conference and Lobby Day on Tuesday, January 16 at the Iowa State Capitol to announce the bills and advocate for these important changes. We’d like you to join us!
Here’s the schedule:*
10:00 am sharp – Press Conference on the west side of the Rotunda (Arrive at 9:30 am)
10:45 am – 12:00 noon – Lobby Day Training Session at the Wallace Building Auditorium. Get talking points on Senator Johnson’s bills and learn the basics of lobbying from Jana Linderman, VP of the Iowa Farmers Union. (We’ll lobby in small groups.)
12:00 – 1:15 pm – Lunch Break
1:30 – 3:30 pm – Meet at the Rotunda to form groups to lobby your elected officials.
Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know you will be attending. Or just meet us at the State House on January 16. Let’s show up in force to let our elected officials know we want BIG changes for Iowa!
Don’t miss this opportunity on January 16 to send an important message to the Iowa State Legislature: Iowans need better CAFO regulations – and a factory farm moratorium until there are less than 100 water impairments in the state.
